Editors’ Rebellion of SFW

No comments March 23rd, 2010

SFW(Science Fiction World) is the oldest and biggest SF magazine in China, and also is the unique one. I have read it since my twelve and left it from 3 years ago because I can’t find the feelings I have before. Two days ago, a post wrote by anonymity in SFW group on Douban.com declared he behalf of all the editors in this magazine and they want fire the chief editor Li Chang(李昶) because the different attitude to the magazine between them. In this post, Li Change just want make money from the magazine regardless of  the quality. The editors love the magazine and they are afraid the irresponsible action would ruin the 30 years old magazine, so they post this open letter.

I have nothing to say, present china like a science fiction world. Google.cn leaves China mainland today, more than one hundred children get disability or died led by inferior vaccinum in Shan Xi province, duststorm invade China and five provinces in southwestern China suffered from drought.

I am glad to see that Google want quit China mainland, because google.cn is just shame but nothing. For the potential big market, Google forgot its Don’t be Evil. Although there is big possibility this decision is also led by money, at least it needn’t give in to the Chinese government.

I am a big fan of Google and at the same time I almost use all the product of Google, I cannot without Gmail and Reader for a day. Maybe after Google left China, the .com domain would be blocked and we cannot use Gmail and other product, it will be a disaster for Chinese university and scientist. For me, it force me to use Tor and other proxy tools, and maybe buy a VPN account. That’s quite not convenience, it make me realize we back to the Qing Dynasty, in that period, the rulers blocked China from the world.

[Board Game]The Battle among Three Kingdom

No comments December 18th, 2009

Board game is not popular in China. Most players are young people who like to receive new idea. It’s just fun of minorities. Now the things seem to change because The Battle among Three Kingdom appeared.

In Chinese history, there was some game like the board game we played today. The Picture of Be A More Powerful Officer (升官图) is one of them. In this game, the only target in this game is get the top of the ancient Chinese government architecture.

The Battle among Three Kingdom is more like a modern board game. Actually it definitely inspired by a famous board game Bang!. The cowboy is replaced by historical character in the Three Kingdom period after Han Dynasty of China. The  creator added many roleplay elements in the game, every character has their own skills which are fit their background in history.

It’s popular in Chinese youth, and it make more and more people know the board game and many board game bar opened in major cities of China. Although the group of board game players is still very small in China, I and my friends can enjoy the fun of it.

In Memory of Yang Jia

Last year on this day, a man is executed in China.[wiki]

He is a murderer who killed 6 Shanghai police officers in police station. He is a hero who shined glory at last time of his short life.

Today is Thanks Giving Day in western world, I don’t know how many Chinese would remenber him, I know there should be some and I’am one of them.

I don’t belive violence could make a better world, but I hold strong belief that violence is a useful tool forces tyrants choose gentle reformers’ oppion. Yang Jia is the one makes tyrants know we Chinese also can fight back when we being humiliated, if there’s no justice we also can find our own justice.

New Berlin Wall in China

1 comment October 30th, 2009

There’s wall in China.

It seems like no Chinese know where the wall is, even  the existence of  the wall is some kind of secret in this country.  You can not see it, touch it, throw stone to it. And the wall does no effect to your daily life, how kind the wall is. Is it really true?

The wall is only for the curious ones. For the one who is asking for truth, knowledge and justice, the wall is brutal and merciless. When you want know some knowledge or info the BIG BROTHER forbid, it cast its evil magic let you face the high wall.

They want there is no curious people in China, they want no one ask why and how, they want every one sit down and enjoy their unfair fortune. However, nothing can tie down a freedom heart no matter how high the wall is. We have many ways to gladder the wall and dig some small tunnel in the wall. Can you see the Chinese users in the twitter and facebook, some of them are the hero who cross the wall.

Ah, I forgot to introduce the name of the wall. Please remember it, one day, it  is certain to write in the history book with other things which keep people  far away truth and wisdom for their creator’s evil purpose.

There’s wall in China, we call it Great Firewall.

My blog title is GEEK NEVER COOK, actually I love cooking. Cooking is one of my favorite things to do after work. I named my blog inspired by an online cloth manufacturer GEEK COOK.

Their design philosophy are democracy and science, both are our current society needed. Beside the abstract ideas, their stuffs are real awesome.

I have bought two T-shirts this summer, Nuclear Physics and Twitter theme.

Nuclear Physics

Tag on the right sleeve

Above is the Nuclear Physics theme shirt. After the famous E=MC2 equation are Chinese characters of  uranium, plutonium, protium, deuterium and tritium. The nuclear bombs Fat Man and Little Boy are in the right corner of this shirt. Maybe weired in someone’s eyes, but I like the style. I loved most is the tag on the right sleeve, which is also on all the T-shirt they selled,A geek inside tag. I am proud of be a geek lol.

Buying their cloth, I’m not afraid of thart others weared the same cloth I’m in. The China is so big and GEEK COOK is a small manufacturer and only sell their products online. Well, another advantage let me choose them. Enough for GEEK COOK, I should go and design my own zipper buckle for their new product I would bought later.

I will buy it later

The meaning of life

No comments October 11th, 2009

What is the meaning of life?  For merchants mean profit, for poor mean food and shelter, for Chinese goverment means control. Douglas Adams told us the answer is 42, though nobody really believe that.

This is the same question I asked myself when I look up to the starry sky. The universe is huge and I feel I am so small. At that moment, I thought I knew something. Exploring the big world is my task in my life.

I live in China, many people in my country forget how to enjoy the life. They are always working hard for physically comfortable and seldom for spiritual joy. I don’t want be one of them, so I make this website to remind myself. Writing can record my life and the journey of my pursuit of knowledge.

We are Chinese, the reason we use English to write blog is that we want open our minds to another world, which is differ from we live in.
