June 4 1989

No comments June 3rd, 2010

Tomorrow is a big day for China and Chinese, who still remember the slaughter in Beijing 21 years ago.

Some website already closed the tweeter-like function forbid anyone post something with this issue. June 4 is a taboo like the name of Voldmort in China.

Justice is shit for Chinese because we face injustice everyday. Compared  with the evil, we are so weak. Remembering the June 4 1989 is our little rebellion.

Game Evolution

No comments May 16th, 2010

Not only living things can evolution, something we created like video game, also have the ability. From Pong to Wii Sport, the Game changed a lot. How about made the decades evolution history into one game? That’s should be fun in my mind. In this game, the game itself is the  lead. Player got enough point and choose the evolution direction, and get a new game genre. Player save the game genre and can play it later.

Above is my conception of my new game  for the Intel Level Up 2010. It’s just a draft, and I’ll refine it and made a playable one.

My entry is here.

Editors’ Rebellion of SFW

No comments March 23rd, 2010

SFW(Science Fiction World) is the oldest and biggest SF magazine in China, and also is the unique one. I have read it since my twelve and left it from 3 years ago because I can’t find the feelings I have before. Two days ago, a post wrote by anonymity in SFW group on Douban.com declared he behalf of all the editors in this magazine and they want fire the chief editor Li Chang(李昶) because the different attitude to the magazine between them. In this post, Li Change just want make money from the magazine regardless of  the quality. The editors love the magazine and they are afraid the irresponsible action would ruin the 30 years old magazine, so they post this open letter.

I have nothing to say, present china like a science fiction world. Google.cn leaves China mainland today, more than one hundred children get disability or died led by inferior vaccinum in Shan Xi province, duststorm invade China and five provinces in southwestern China suffered from drought.

West Chamber Plan

2 comments March 13th, 2010

Well, the story began from 800 years ago, China is in Yuan Dynasty at that time. A brilliant dramatist named Wang Shifu wrote a drama Romance of West Chamber, Which is about two youth how to get married through the barricade of their family. The classic scene of this drama is the boy over the wall to meet the girl secretly, it is also the reason why the developer named the project as West Chamber Plan.

The goal of this project is let users can access Internet freely despite GFW and it really easy to use. It solves two problem which led by GFW: connection reset by peer and domain hijacking. The theory is from the paper Insertion, Evasion, and Denial of Service: Eluding Network Intrusion Detection by T. Ptacek etc..

Actually I have no idea of the theory, just glad to see someone use his skills against evil for the masses. With hard work of innumerable people like this, we create the civilization we have today.

Sad Story about Dingoo Games

3 comments February 23rd, 2010

I have heard a story about Dingoo Games, a mobile game company in Chengdu. I can’t verify the authenticity of the email in the story, and it can describe some kind of real situation of game industry in China. So I public here.

Dingoo Game is a small mobile game company in the city I live in. It’s small, but not weak. They have won many prize international and national like nominated for the IGF Mobile 2008 of the “Technical Achievement” category. I found an essay says that when IMGA invite they to attend MWC2008, by lack of money, they refused the opportunity. Below is the email they replied to the IMGA.

Hello Jessica,

We are DingooGames.
I did read your mail, very carefully, and my reply was absolutely serious.

I noticed the price you mentioned, of course, it’s 6.300 EUR, am I right?

I totally believe that it’s a very low price seems to you, and I know that MWC2008 is a very important congress, and if we attend it, we are very probable to find good opportunities. And after all, we are invited as an IMGA nominee.

Yes I know everything listed above, so I can feel your surprise!

But I must say: We really have not enought money to attend, please, please listen to my explanation:

We are a small company. We have only 11 employees, including me.
The average salary of us is 200 EUR, per month. I’m not joking…

So, 6.300 EUR is really too high – for us, not to say the tickets and other expenses…

We know the congress is very important to us, we want to attend it badly, but, we really can’t.

If possible, we need your help. We make good games, but we don’t even have the money to attend a conference.

And I think that’s why we are join the IMGAwards.

If possible, we need your help.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon,

Best regards,

DingooGames

Maybe it’s just a selling strategy to let more Chinese user buy their product because I don’t find the original post. However, it indeed described the embarrassing situation in Chinese game industry. Chinese can get pirated game easily, game company can’t get enough money to develop. Compared with other fallen company, Dingoo is lucky enough. How long can their luck last if things like the mail said, god knows.

I am glad to see that Google want quit China mainland, because google.cn is just shame but nothing. For the potential big market, Google forgot its Don’t be Evil. Although there is big possibility this decision is also led by money, at least it needn’t give in to the Chinese government.

I am a big fan of Google and at the same time I almost use all the product of Google, I cannot without Gmail and Reader for a day. Maybe after Google left China, the .com domain would be blocked and we cannot use Gmail and other product, it will be a disaster for Chinese university and scientist. For me, it force me to use Tor and other proxy tools, and maybe buy a VPN account. That’s quite not convenience, it make me realize we back to the Qing Dynasty, in that period, the rulers blocked China from the world.

[Board Game]The Battle among Three Kingdom

No comments December 18th, 2009

Board game is not popular in China. Most players are young people who like to receive new idea. It’s just fun of minorities. Now the things seem to change because The Battle among Three Kingdom appeared.

In Chinese history, there was some game like the board game we played today. The Picture of Be A More Powerful Officer (升官图) is one of them. In this game, the only target in this game is get the top of the ancient Chinese government architecture.

The Battle among Three Kingdom is more like a modern board game. Actually it definitely inspired by a famous board game Bang!. The cowboy is replaced by historical character in the Three Kingdom period after Han Dynasty of China. The  creator added many roleplay elements in the game, every character has their own skills which are fit their background in history.

It’s popular in Chinese youth, and it make more and more people know the board game and many board game bar opened in major cities of China. Although the group of board game players is still very small in China, I and my friends can enjoy the fun of it.

Back to Chengdu

I have finished my first businese trip in Xi’an, which be famous as the capital of  Tang Dynasty in Chinese history.

I have to say the ancient wall is so great. That’s my first time to see the complete ancient city wall in real life, I even forgot shooting a picture for my exciting. However, I am not quite like the Xi’an city. Maybe the dry climate make me feel bad and the less development is not my dreamed type of city. I know many foreigners prefer Xi’an than Chengdu because they are bored of modern city. And for me, I would make the opposite choice, because I’am the slave of modern society, lol.
